CVE-2024-0162

SMRAM out-of-bounds access via unchecked SMM buffer

Published Mar 13, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Improper buffer validation in Dell PowerEdge BIOS Intel 16G allows local users to perform out-of-bounds reads and writes in SMRAM. The firmware does not properly verify an SMM communication buffer before using it for protected-memory access, permitting operations beyond the intended bounds. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and high-complexity conditions; successful access can disclose or alter SMRAM data.
