Authenticated resource exhaustion via file globbing
Published Mar 19, 2024 · Updated Nov 8, 2024
Improper wildcard neutralization in AXIS OS 10.12 through 11.8 allows remote authenticated users to exhaust device resources. The mediaclip.cgi and playclip.cgi endpoints invoke file-globbing behavior without neutralizing wildcard symbols supplied through VAPIX requests. Viewer access is enough through playclip.cgi, while mediaclip.cgi requires Operator access; resource consumption can interrupt the device.
