CVE-2024-0038

Local privilege escalation via unchecked input injection

Published Feb 16, 2024 · Updated Aug 22, 2024

Local privilege escalation in Google Android 14 allows local users to inject arbitrary input events without user interaction. AccessibilityManagerService's injectInputEventToInputFilter method forwards attacker-supplied events without enforcing the INJECT_EVENTS permission, and UiAutomationConnection fails to restrict the caller to a trusted UID. Code execution on the device is required, but no additional execution privileges are needed; successful exploitation lets the caller synthesize input as a more privileged context.
