Administrator takeover via trusted user-switch cookies
Published Mar 11, 2024 · Updated Aug 11, 2024
Privilege escalation in WP-Buy Login as User or Customer 3.8 and earlier allows remote attackers to take over an administrator account. The unauthenticated loginas_return_admin AJAX action trusts attacker-supplied user-switch cookies and returns WordPress authentication cookies for the stored administrator session. Exploitation requires an administrator to have switched accounts and the request to match or spoof that administrator's source IP, after which the attacker gains administrator access.
