Code execution via EtherCAT parser out-of-bounds write
Published Mar 1, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Out-of-bounds write in CISA ICSNPP-ETHERCAT through d78dda6 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via crafted EtherCAT datagrams. The plugin's EtherCAT analyzer writes beyond a memory buffer while parsing specific datagrams, but CISA has not identified the affected routine, field, or failed bounds check. The flaw is reached without authentication when Zeek analyzes attacker-controlled EtherCAT traffic, placing the Zeek process at risk of code execution or interruption.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
