CVE-2023-7085Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Author-level stored XSS via unsanitized SVG uploads

Published Mar 18, 2024 · Updated Aug 28, 2024

Stored XSS in Sterling Hamilton Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) 3.4 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts via SVG uploads. The plugin accepts uploaded SVG markup without sanitizing embedded script elements, and WordPress serves the retained file so its payload executes when opened. Author-level access is sufficient to upload the file, but another user must access its direct URL; the demonstrated effect is script execution in that viewer’s browser.
