Stored XSS via unescaped Table of Contents output
Published Jan 11, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in the Table of Contents block in Essential Blocks for Gutenberg 4.4.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts. The server-side TableOfContents.php renderer writes block content into generated table-of-contents markup without sufficient input sanitization and output escaping. Contributor-level access is required, and the stored script runs in a visitor's browser whenever the affected page is opened.
