CVE-2023-7042

System crash via missing ath10k event validation

Published Dec 21, 2023 · Updated Nov 21, 2025

Null pointer dereference in the ath10k driver in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9 allows local users to crash the system. The ath10k_wmi_tlv_op_pull_mgmt_tx_compl_ev function dereferences a management-transmit-completion event pointer without checking whether the required TLV is present. Exploitation requires high local privileges and an ath10k Wi-Fi device capable of delivering the malformed completion event; the resulting kernel fault interrupts the host.
