Stored script execution via extension-only upload validation
Published Dec 21, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stored cross-site scripting in Automad 1.10.9 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute JavaScript through SVG or PDF uploads. FileCollectionController::upload checks only the filename extension against an allowlist that includes SVG, PDF, and JavaScript, then moves the file into writable site storage. Dashboard access is required, and GitHub withdrew the advisory because Automad intentionally permits JavaScript execution; the claimed security boundary is therefore disputed.
