Crash via freed TLS socket layer
Published Dec 19, 2023 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
Use-after-free in Mozilla Firefox before 121, Firefox ESR before 115.6, and Thunderbird before 115.6 allows remote attackers to cause a crash. During TLS socket creation, SSL_SetURL allocation failure destroys plaintextLayer, but error handling later passes that freed layer to PR_GetIdentitiesLayer. Network content must trigger a TLS connection while allocation fails under memory pressure; public testing demonstrated a crash, while code execution was not established.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
