CMU reboot via malformed IEC 104 messages

Buffer overflow in SCI and HCI IEC 60870-5-104 in Hitachi Energy RTU500 CMU Firmware allows remote attackers to reboot the CMU. The components process specially crafted protocol messages without adequate validation, causing a buffer overflow. No authentication or user interaction is required, but Hitachi Energy rates exploitation as high complexity and bounds the effect to a device reboot.
