CVE-2023-6610

Kernel crash via unvalidated SMB size calculation

Published Dec 8, 2023 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel SMB client before 6.1.74 and 6.2 through 6.6.12 allows local users to crash systems. smb2_dump_detail passes an unvalidated received SMB buffer to calc_smb_size before check_message verifies its length and header. The path requires CIFS debug support; exploitation can crash the host or disclose adjacent kernel memory.
