Local file disclosure via retained TTY demuxer
Published Dec 31, 2024 · Updated Nov 3, 2025
Resource injection in FFmpeg 2.0 through 6.0 allows remote attackers to disclose local file contents through a crafted HLS playlist. The HLS demuxer retains the TTY format selected from a rejected segment and applies it to later file URI data instead of restarting format detection. Exploitation requires automatic input-format probing; the TTY demuxer renders the referenced file as ASCII in the output video.
