CVE-2023-6371Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Stored XSS via Banzai reference substitution

Published Mar 28, 2024 · Updated May 8, 2026

Stored XSS in GitLab CE/EE before 16.8.5, 16.9 before 16.9.3, and 16.10 before 16.10.1 allows remote authenticated users to run JavaScript. AbstractReferenceFilter checks only the start of a rendered reference, then globally substitutes later matches inside attributes, letting encoded quotes break out into attacker-controlled HTML. A project member who can create a crafted wiki page can execute script when another authenticated user views it, enabling actions with that victim's GitLab privileges.
