Root command execution via unsanitized lyrics filename
Published Apr 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Command injection in LG Electronics webOS 4 through 7 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root via crafted media files. The convLrcStringByBinary code passes an unsanitized fullPath filename to iconv when a matching lyrics file begins with the UTF-1632 marker. Exploitation requires authenticated service access plus attacker-created MP3 and LRC files, and successful commands gain root control of the television.
