Privileged account creation via cross-profile client key
Published Apr 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Authorization bypass in LG Electronics webOS 4 through 7 allows remote attackers to create a privileged account without a TV PIN. The secondscreen.gateway account handler sets skipPrompt when a supplied companion-client-key matches any existing profile, but it does not verify that the key belongs to the account requesting elevated permissions. Network access to the service on TCP ports 3000 or 3001 is sufficient; the new profile can access protected SSAP APIs, but this flaw alone does not grant root execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
