CVE-2023-6277Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Service interruption via unchecked TIFF allocation sizes

Published Nov 24, 2023 · Updated Jan 22, 2026

Uncontrolled resource consumption in libtiff on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9 allows remote attackers to cause a service interrupt. TIFFOpen trusts crafted directory, strip-count, and tag-size values that claim far more data than the file contains, then allocates memory from those values. An application must process an attacker-supplied TIFF file; the resulting memory exhaustion can terminate that process or impair its host, without reported data exposure or modification.
