Service interruption via retained TLS connection data
Published Dec 5, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Memory leak in Cloudflare tokio-boring 4.0.0 allows remote attackers to interrupt services through repeated TLS connections. During TLS setup, set_ex_data overwrites an existing extra-data pointer without dropping its boxed value, retaining memory after each connection. No authentication or user interaction is required, but service interruption depends on opening enough connections to exhaust the hosting process's memory.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
