CVE-2023-6176

Local kernel crash via invalid scatterwalk address

Published Nov 16, 2023 · Updated Nov 6, 2025

NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel scatterwalk on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 and 9 allows local users to crash the system. scatterwalk_copychunks accesses an invalid kernel address calculated after a crafted packet and specific socket configuration reach the crypto path. A local low-privileged account and precise packet construction are required; successful triggering panics the kernel and interrupts the host.
