Stored XSS via unsanitized chart HTML setting
Published Feb 12, 2024 · Updated May 6, 2025
Stored XSS in the chartjs WordPress plugin through 2023.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts via a new chart. The New Chart HTML setting stores input without sanitization or output escaping, then renders it on the chartjs chart page. Administrator-level access is required even when unfiltered_html is disabled, and execution occurs in the browser of a user who views the saved chart, exposing data and actions available to that session.
