CVE-2023-6056

Man-in-the-middle interception via RIPEMD-160 certificate misvalidation

Published Oct 18, 2024 · Updated Oct 18, 2024

Certificate validation failure in Bitdefender Total Security before 27.0.25.115 allows remote attackers to intercept HTTPS traffic. HTTPS scanning trusts self-signed certificates that use RIPEMD-160 without properly validating their chain of trust. Exploitation requires an active man-in-the-middle position and a crafted certificate, enabling confidential data capture or traffic alteration.
