Man-in-the-middle interception via missing certificate EKU validation
Published Oct 18, 2024 · Updated Oct 18, 2024
Improper certificate validation in Bitdefender Total Security before 27.0.25.115 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to intercept HTTPS traffic. HTTPS scanning accepts a site certificate when its Extended Key Usage extension omits Server Authentication instead of rejecting it as unsuitable. Exploitation requires a man-in-the-middle position and active browsing through HTTPS scanning, exposing site communications to interception and alteration.
