CVE-2023-5901Network attack vector

Stored XSS via unsanitized SVG uploads

Published Nov 1, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Stored XSS in PKP Web Application Library before 3.3.0-16 allows remote authenticated users to run script through SVG uploads. The public-file upload handler accepts SVG in its extension allowlist, while image handling classifies SVG MIME types as images without sanitizing active content. High-privilege upload access and a victim opening the stored file are required, exposing browser-accessible data and actions in the victim's session.
