Stored XSS via unescaped attachment filenames

Published Oct 31, 2023 · Updated Feb 27, 2025

Stored XSS in phpMyFAQ before 3.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to run script in another user's browser via attachment filenames. The admin record editor and AttachmentHelper insert getFilename() output into attachment-list HTML without first converting special characters to HTML entities. An authenticated user must store a crafted filename and another user must view the affected attachment list, where the script executes in the viewer's browser context.
