Administrator-session script execution via unescaped hash parameter
Published Dec 11, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Reflected XSS in ReviewX Team EmbedPress before 3.9.2 allows remote attackers to execute script in an administrator's browser. The page renderer returns the unsanitized hash parameter into pages containing specific customThumbnail content, allowing injected markup and event handlers into the response. Exploitation requires a privileged user to open a crafted link; the script runs in that user's browser with the authority of the active WordPress session.
