Subscriber-level option disclosure via unchecked AJAX handler
Published Dec 7, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Missing authorization in System Dashboard 2.8.7 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to read WordPress option values via AJAX. The sd_option_value() AJAX handler retrieves and deserializes a requested option without checking the caller's administrative capability. A subscriber-level account is sufficient, and exposure is limited to option data returned by the handler.
