Authenticated cross-site scripting via unescaped form errors
Published Oct 20, 2023 · Updated Sep 11, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Modoboa before 2.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in another user's browser via profile input. The generic_field.html template applies Django's safe filter to validation errors, inserting attacker-controlled error text into the page without HTML escaping. Exploitation requires access to the profile form and user interaction; successful execution is confined to the victim's browser context.
