Stored XSS via unescaped caption attributes
Published Nov 7, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2026
Stored XSS in the Featured Image Caption plugin by Christiaan Conover 0.8.10 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts. The shortcode and post-meta rendering paths store user-supplied caption attributes without sufficient sanitization and emit them without context-appropriate output escaping. Contributor-level access is required to plant the payload, which executes whenever a user opens the affected page and can act within that user's browser session.
