Kernel memory leak after SMB Direct allocation failure
Published Dec 30, 2025 · Updated Dec 30, 2025
Resource leak in the CIFS SMB Direct client in Linux causes connection data to remain allocated after memory-region allocation fails. The connection is not assigned to server->smbd_conn before smbd_destroy() runs, so its NULL check returns without releasing the allocation. The condition occurs during SMB Direct connection setup when memory-region allocation fails; public sources identify no attacker-controlled trigger or broader impact.
