CVE-2023-54257Network attack vector

Service interruption via unmasked RX descriptor bit

Published Dec 30, 2025 · Updated Dec 30, 2025

Memory corruption in affected Linux kernel branches starting at 4.13 allows remote attackers to interrupt networking and MMC service. In gem_rx(), macb reads an RX descriptor address without masking DMA_RXVALID, then uses the corrupted value to unmap DMA memory. Exposure requires Cadence macb extended buffer descriptors and hardware timestamping; reception can permanently disable both services.
