CVE-2023-54129

Kernel crash via unchecked firmware link type

Published Dec 24, 2025 · Updated Dec 24, 2025

Denial of service in the Linux kernel allows attackers to crash affected systems when firmware reports an invalid link type during a link change. The octeontx2-af link_status_user_format function uses firmware-supplied lmac_type_id to index cgx_lmactype_string without first checking its bounds. Reachability requires the octeontx2 AF driver and firmware reporting an out-of-range identifier during a physical link change.
