CVE-2023-54071

Kernel warning via sleeping rate update under RCU

Published Dec 24, 2025 · Updated Dec 24, 2025

Concurrency error in the rtw88 Wi-Fi driver in Linux 5.19 through 6.1.29 and 6.2 through 6.3.3 allows attackers to trigger a kernel warning. The sta_rc_update callback performs synchronous USB reads that can sleep while ieee80211_chan_bw_change holds an RCU read-side critical section. The observed path requires rtw88 hardware and a channel-bandwidth update; the upstream record documents the warning but no crash or data impact.
