CVE-2023-54007

Kernel crash via non-atomic VMCI context reads

Published Dec 24, 2025 · Updated Dec 24, 2025

Race condition in the Linux VMCI host driver allows local users to crash the kernel by racing polling with context initialization. vmci_host_poll() reads the context pointer before checking ct_type, so concurrent initialization can leave it dereferencing an uninitialized context in poll_wait(). Reaching the flaw requires local execution able to poll the VMCI host device during context setup; the bounded consequence is a general protection fault and service interruption.
