Local code execution via username format string
Published Dec 22, 2025 · Updated Dec 22, 2025
Format string injection in SOUND4 Link&Share Transmitter 1.1.2 allows local users to execute code through the username environment variable. The executable passes the environment-derived username into MSVCR120 vsnprintf processing without neutralizing attacker-controlled format directives. A local user must control the launch environment and start the program; crafted directives disclose stack data or terminate the process, with code execution also reported.
