SYSTEM escalation via writable EmailAgent directory
Published Dec 19, 2025 · Updated Dec 19, 2025
Incorrect permissions in Persits Software AspEmail 5.6.0.2 and earlier allow local users to gain SYSTEM access through EmailAgent. The installation grants Everyone full control over the EmailAgent BIN directory, so a local user can replace the LocalSystem service executable. Message queuing and the EmailAgent service must be installed; service execution then runs the replacement with SYSTEM privileges.
