Authenticated command execution via executable avatar upload
Published Dec 17, 2025 · Updated Dec 17, 2025
Unrestricted file upload in UliCMS 2023.1 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands through a malicious profile avatar. The UserController update path passes a .phar avatar to User::changeAvatar and User::processAvatar, which leaves the rejected upload in a web-accessible temporary directory. Any logged-in account able to edit its profile can request the disclosed temporary URL, causing the PHP payload to run with the web server's privileges.
