CVE-2023-53844

Local privilege escalation via dangling TTM resource

Published Dec 9, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Resource-management flaw in Linux kernel 5.14 through 6.4.4 allows local users to gain kernel privileges through TTM swapout. In ttm_bo_swapout(), a failed ttm_bo_handle_move_mem() call exits without freeing evict_mem, leaving a TTM resource associated with a buffer object that can be freed. Access to a DRM render node is required; repeated forced failures can corrupt kernel memory, redirect kernel control flow, or hang the system.
