CVE-2023-53819

Local kernel compromise via GEM VA offset overflow

Published Dec 9, 2025 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Out-of-bounds access in the AMDGPU VM code in Linux allows local users to read or alter kernel memory through a crafted GEM VA ioctl. The amdgpu_vm_bo_map and amdgpu_vm_bo_replace_map paths let offset_in_bo plus map_size wrap past the buffer-object bounds check before amdgpu_vm_update_range uses the resulting range. Access to a local DRM render or card device node is required; successful exploitation can compromise kernel confidentiality and integrity or crash the system.
