CVE-2023-53722

Kernel compromise via unchecked RAID disk index

Published Oct 22, 2025 · Updated Oct 22, 2025

Out-of-bounds access in Linux RAID1 allows local users to compromise the kernel through a RAID device with an invalid disk index. raid1_remove_disk() derives a mirror pointer from rdev->raid_disk without first ensuring that the index is below the configured disk count. Reaching this path requires local access and the ability to alter an MD RAID1 array; consequences include kernel data exposure, modification, or crash.
