CVE-2023-53711Network attack vector

Data corruption via unjoined NFS retransmission subrequests

Published Oct 22, 2025 · Updated Oct 22, 2025

Data corruption in the NFS client in Linux kernel 5.7 through 6.5.3 allows remote attackers to alter O_DIRECT write results. When mixed FILE_SYNC and UNSTABLE subrequests trigger retransmission after a changed COMMIT verifier, nfs_direct_write_reschedule() fails to rejoin subrequests to the head request. An already-mounted export carrying O_DIRECT writes must be controlled by a malicious NFS server or exposed to an on-path attacker; affected writes can report success while stored file contents silently diverge.
