NFS service crash via unchecked operation index
Published Oct 7, 2025 · Updated Oct 7, 2025
Out-of-bounds access in Linux NFSD allows remote attackers to crash the NFS service with a malformed NFSv4 COMPOUND request. nfsd4_decode_compound() can pass OP_ILLEGAL value 10044 to OPDESC(), which indexes nfsd4_ops[] without validating the operation number. Any host that can reach TCP port 2049 can enter the decoder before export or NFSv4 authorization checks, faulting an NFSD kernel thread and taking the service down.
