CVE-2023-53535

Kernel panic via oversized GENET receive packet

Published Oct 4, 2025 · Updated Oct 4, 2025

Denial of service in the Linux kernel bcmgenet driver before 6.3 allows attackers to trigger a kernel panic with an oversized packet. The receive path allocates nominal 2 KiB socket buffers but passes an oversized hardware-reported packet length to skb_put(), invoking skb_over_panic(). A crafted frame must reach a system using Broadcom GENET hardware; successful exploitation crashes the kernel without modifying data.
