Kernel panic via unchecked devlink allocation failure
Published Oct 1, 2025 · Updated Oct 1, 2025
NULL pointer dereference in the Linux ionic Ethernet driver from version 5.4 allows local users to panic the kernel during driver load. ionic_devlink_register does not test devlink_alloc's return before passing it to devlink_priv, so allocation failure dereferences NULL. Reachability requires the ionic driver and a failed devlink allocation; the resulting kernel panic interrupts the host.
