CVE-2023-53423

Build-process memory exhaustion via leaked key names

Published Sep 18, 2025 · Updated Sep 18, 2025

Memory leak in Linux objtool in affected kernel versions allows local users to exhaust memory during static-call section creation. create_static_call_sections() stores a strdup() allocation in key_name, then returns from relocation-error paths without freeing it. Reaching the flaw requires local access and an objtool run that enters such an error path; the leak affects the build process, not the running kernel.
