CVE-2023-5341

Local denial of service via unchecked BMP size

Published Nov 19, 2023 · Updated Nov 20, 2025

A heap use-after-free in ImageMagick coders/bmp.c allows local users to cause a denial of service via a crafted BMP image. ReadBMPImage accepted a BMP file_size larger than the input blob, allowing malformed headers to drive unsafe heap access. Exploitation requires local access to process the image; observed impact is process crash or service interruption, with no confidentiality or integrity effect reported.
