CVE-2023-53400

Kernel Oops via channel-prefix array overflow

Published Sep 18, 2025 · Updated Sep 18, 2025

Out-of-bounds access in Linux kernel ALSA HDA allows local users to trigger a kernel Oops through 9.1-channel naming. The get_line_out_pfx() path indexes a static channel-prefix array beyond its eight entries when it formats more than eight output channels. Reachability requires a local audio configuration exposing more than eight channels; the resulting Oops interrupts kernel service without reported data disclosure or modification.
