CVE-2023-53357

Kernel disclosure and crash via delayed bounds check

Published Sep 17, 2025 · Updated Sep 17, 2025

Out-of-bounds read in the Linux kernel md/RAID10 subsystem allows local users to disclose kernel memory or crash the host through a bitmap write. md_bitmap_get_counter() continues after md_bitmap_checkpage() rejects an oversized page index, then uses the invalid page while setting the returned block count. Access to a configured MD RAID10 array and permission to write its md/bitmap_set_bits sysfs control are required, bounding the impact to disclosure or host interruption.
