CVE-2023-53356

Local crash via USB serial suspend race

Published Sep 17, 2025 · Updated Sep 17, 2025

NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel 5.8 through 6.4.3 allows local users to crash the system through USB gadget serial operations. In drivers/usb/gadget/function/u_serial.c, gserial_suspend dereferences gser->ioport after gserial_disconnect clears it during a race. Reaching the fault requires local low-privileged access and a disconnect/suspend ordering; the documented consequence is a kernel crash.
