CVE-2023-53286

Kernel warning via ignored firmware destruction status

Published Sep 16, 2025 · Updated Sep 16, 2025

Incorrect error handling in affected Linux kernel branches allows failed RDMA/mlx5 QP or RQ destruction to remain unreported. The mlx5 destroy functions discard firmware failure results, so upper layers continue as though the resources were removed and retain inconsistent state. The condition requires a hardware- or firmware-internal destroy-command failure that attackers cannot reliably influence, with a kernel warning as the demonstrated consequence.
