CVE-2023-53278

Service interruption via failed module-init memory leak

Published Sep 16, 2025 · Updated Sep 16, 2025

Memory leakage in the UBIFS subsystem allows local users to consume kernel memory by triggering failed module initialization. ubifs_sysfs_init() names the UBIFS kset but, when kset_register() fails, affected kernels omit kset_put() and retain the allocated kset name. Reachability requires local access sufficient to load ubifs.ko and induce the registration failure; each failed initialization leaves kernel memory unreleased.
